Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly
in recognition of some of the 'greats' of history. On June 1st 1809 Captain Barclay, a well-to-do gentleman pedestrian, set off on his greatest feat of pedestration. He walked 1000 miles in 1000 hours at an average speed of 1 mph around a measured course at Newmarket. The walk lasted 42 days & nights and earned him today's equivalent of £5 million in bets. 200 years later, jockey Richard Dunwoody repeated the feat, or should that be 'feet' to raise money for charity. N.B. A waywiser was used to measure the distance accurately. |
